The Customs Department has launched freight tracking and pre-arrival processing systems in an attempt to streamline its customs clearance process.
According to Customs Department Director-General Kulit Sombatsiri, the two systems will be used at Laem Chabang Port Customs Bureau.
The tracking system, which uses e-lock technology, is expected to enable customs officials to inspect and control products entering and leaving the country more effectively.
Meanwhile, the pre-arrival processing system will enhance the potentials of the Laem Chabang Deep Sea Port to become an important logistics center and hub of multimodal transportation.
The Laem Chabang Deep Sea Port is dealing with the largest volumes of imports and exports annually, compared to other sea ports in the country.
The Director-General said the new tracking and pre-arrival processing systems at the sea port will make Thailand more appealing to foreign traders and investors.
